Der Strompreis entsteht aus Angebot und Nachfrage an der Börse (Day-Ahead-Markt). Wenn sehr viel Strom im Netz ist — etwa an sonnigen, windigen Tagen — und kaum jemand ihn braucht, kann der Preis unter null fallen. Der Markt zahlt dann sogar dafür, den Strom loszuwerden. Für solche Stunden gibt es keine Förderung mehr — das regelt §51 EEG.
The power price arises from supply and demand on the exchange (day-ahead market). When there is a lot of power in the grid — e.g. on sunny, windy days — and hardly anyone needs it, the price can fall below zero. The market then even pays to get rid of the power. For such hours there is no more support — governed by §51 EEG.

Welche Schwelle für deine Anlage gilt, hängt vom Inbetriebnahme-Datum ab. Ältere Anlagen können unter Bestandsschutz fallen. Lass dir den angesetzten Schwellenwert vom Direktvermarkter ausweisen — er muss in den §51-Daten dokumentiert sein.
Which threshold applies to your plant depends on the commissioning date. Older plants may be grandfathered. Have your direct marketer state the threshold used — it must be documented in the §51 data.
